For the Salon in Tokyo Verkerke had had an idea the year before. Would it be possible to imitate a crystal, and make it into a geode with Tokyo in the centre coming out of the stone.
Around the same time, Menno van den Berg (a friend of Verkerke’s) sent an e-mail asking if he would be interested in a collaboration. He did a lot of work with 3d-printers. In realizing the city, a 3d-printer was the ideal tool. In this way, a year-long collaboration in making the crystal city was born. This was then exhibited in Tokyo.
