The international Salon for decorative painters was held in Versailles in 2010.
For the most part, panels and canvasses are presented at the Salon, to be shown to the public in a five-day exhibition. Gert-Jan Nijsse, Stefan Thelen and Barre Verkerke jointly contributed a three-dimensional entry which fit in perfectly with one of the style rooms of the Hotel de Ville of Versailles.
This year’s theme was ‘the sun’, upon which references to Louis XIV quickly found their way into the concept. Elements of marble, wood and gold were bundled as employable decorative techniques, resulting in this sculpture. The work, entitled “Rise and Shine” was received with great praise at Versailles.
